Don't take our word for it, here are some of the reviews we have received from our customers...
Just wanted to write something for the website after I passed my Mod 2 "Big Bike" test this morning.
I used Westside Riders for a 4 day DAS and had the lovely Lawrence as my instructor.
A few months previous to this Lawrence gave me a 2 hour geared lesson on a one to one basis, which helped me gain confidence after a shaky CBT experience with another riding school. I then went off and practised on my 125cc for a few months before commencing the DAS.
Lawrence is a fun, patient guy who, even when you think he isn't looking, notices anything that you may be doing incorrectly! I wasn't that brilliant on the 125cc but once on the bigger 500cc, everything manged to click into place, eventually!
We were very lucky to have the use of a new training site for the Mod 1 training which included the high speed manoeuvres and this definitely helped me gain confidence for the test which I passed first time. Two weeks later, I passed Mod 2, also first time!
Lawrence is very modest and says it is all down to us but he played a big part and whilst practising on my bike between tests, I could mentally hear him giving me instructions for the trickier junctions, etc.
I would like to say to anyone considering whether to take any type of bike training through Westside Riders, that they should, as I hope that like me, they go on to pass and get out there riding safely.
I would like to thank everyone at Westside riders for helping me to complete the bike test.
Having not ridden a motor bike for over 25 years I was a little apprehensive when signing up, however with the help of the instructors and the easy to ride bikes I ended up thoroughly enjoying the 4 days training.
With the combination of excellent Mod 1 & Mod 2 road training I felt comfortable riding the 500cc bike on the road on the 3rd day and the preparation and support through both part 1 and part 2 tests was invaluable in helping me get through both tests 1st time.
I would like to thank Marc and Lawrence and all the staff at Westside riders for helping me to pass my DAS course. If i know of anybody who is looking to take any sort of test on a motorbike I will be recommending you. From the moment I spoke to kim on the phone I knew that this was the place to go. After four days training I passed both tests first time and i still cant believe it. Whoopeeeeeeeee!!
Once again, many, many thanks to Marc and Lawrence, I know it sounds cheesy but I will never forget you both for all the help and your patience during my training.
Having just passed my module 2 and completing my DAS training, I'd just like to thank Westside riders for helping me achieve my dream. "One day" has now arrived and I can go off and live the dream! Especially as I've been talking about it for years!
I can't thank Lawrence enough for his excellent instruction and great advice. I will thoroughly recomend you to anyone who's looking to do their bike test or CBT.
Also, an unsung hero of Westside riders is Kim. Many thanks Kim, for arranging the whole thing and keeping the admin side "up to speed". It's very much appreciated.
Keep up the good work!
Many thanks and best regards,
Nick Head - one very pleased new biker!
To Marc, Lawrence and all the staff at Westside Riders.
What can I say & where do I start?
I've just spent 4 days in the company of Marc and Lawrence drumming in to me "mirror, mirror, shoulder, & cancel that signal", which I now seem to be dreaming about in my sleep, but how worth while it all was!
Module 1 and Module 2 both passed on the same day thanks to Marc and Lawrences' persistent and brilliant tuition, which calmed my nerves and fears on test day and throughout my training. After ringing other motorcycle training companies in the Gloucester area, I found Westside to be both pleasant and understanding of my needs, resulting in me booking my CBT with them at their superb Gloucester training centre. 8 hours of tuition (I didn't realise how much I didn't know) in a relaxed, informative & fun day with Lawrence. After passing the CBT and Theory test I realised there was only one choice for my DAS course.
Four days of intense but considerate Module 1 and Module 2 tuition from Marc (my hero) has made my boyhood dreams come true.
Thanks again to everyone at Westside riders - I will be recommending you to everybody I know.
P.S. See you in two and a half years for my training to become an instructor!
just wanted say a big thank you - firstly to you for organizing my CBT & DAS
courses, especially finding me a module 2 test at such very short notice. I
would also like to thank Lawrence and Marc who were my instructors - both
were patient, honest, and extremely helpful - what shone through from both instructors
was the desire to put motorcyclists on the road with the required skills.
would highly recommend your company to anyone looking to get on 2 wheels
whether it be for CBT or to get a full bike licence.
Thank you, you are a great team - thanks Marc and Lian for your positive and sensitive approach to training.
It has been a great experience and I can recommend your school to anyone wanting to learn to ride.
Just wanted to say thank you to Lawrence & Marvin for an excellent CBT day yesterday. I really did learn a lot from both of you and now I cant wait to get my theory test out of the way so i can bother you both again for my DAS.
I was so excited about getting on the bike that I did not even sleep properly the night before. It was a very pleasant and informative experience for me and I enjoyed every bit of it.
I really enjoyed my CBT day, it was amazing! I learnt a lot! Tell Lian you guys can have ago at my bike if she'll let me have ago at hers! He he... I'm well excited tho, I pick it up today.
Take care anyway... I'm sure I'll see you soon!
Matt Holmes, Digital editor for the Citizen, took his CBT with us.
Here's what he had to say about it...
For years I have harboured a secret desire to get on a motorbike and experience the freedom of the road, But to be frank, I was worried about taking my CBT (compulsory basic training) because I had never ridden a motorbike before. The whole thing about changing gear and being so exposed on today’s busy roads, kept putting me off.
But the congestion and cost of motoring finally forced my hand and I took the CBT with Westside Riders in Gloucester.
The day starts at 8am at Westside’s purpose built training centre in the Morelands Trading Estate on Bristol Road with a classroom theory session packed with really good, simple advice. I had no idea what to look for in a helmet or what clothes to buy but the Westside team offer really clear, easy to understand advice.
I was worried that I would be surrounded by bike “gurus” who would assume a level of knowledge about bikes and riding which I simply didn’t have.
Nothing could have been further from the truth.
As anyone entering the motorbiking world will discover, this fraternity is friendly, welcoming and eager to help whether you have never ridden before or you are getting back on a bike after years behind the wheel of a car.
Not knowing how to even turn on the ignition (as I didn’t) is not a problem. The tuition at westside riders is virtually one to one and individually tailored to the need of the rider.
The morning theory session covered a wide range of road know-how from basic Highway Code rules to reading the road conditions. The classroom at Westside is formal enough to make you really concentrate and friendly enough to make a complete motorbike novice like me feel welcome.
After covering the classroom session the instructors give you a beginner’s guide to looking after your motorcycle. This covers how to check the oil, chain tension, brake fluid and even how to sound the horn.
For people who have perhaps grown up around bikes much of this will be very basic stuff but I guarantee even those people who think they know about bikes will learn something new. After being kitted out with a high visibility jacket, helmet and gloves, it was time to get riding. We wheeled the bikes around to a coned off area of carpark behind Westside Riders – the perfect place to learn how to ride a motorbike.
The brand new Honda CG125 was the ideal machine for a novice like me – a good size and easy to handle. Having said that nothing can prepare you for the first time you actually click it into first gear and release the clutch. As a natural worrier and aged 37 I was acutely aware of my own limitations and was of course terrified of letting the clutch out but there really was no need to worry.
My instructor – Lian Warmington – was superb. Every single step, from which side of the bike to stand by and how to take it off the stand was covered and by the time I finally let out the clutch, I felt confident and well prepared.
The practical session involves stopping and starting the bike, turning it through a figure of 8; emergency braking; approaching a junction, signalling and turning & how to u-turn your bike in a narrow space. The ethos of the training is to keep doing it until you get it right.
Mums and dads – if your teenaged son or daughter is hankering after a moped – be reassured that they have to do the CBT and it is thorough if you use Westside.
The enclosed riding session over, there was a very short break for lunch followed by another classroom session which covered the essential rules for riding safely on the road. I was fortunate enough to reach the required standard which meant I was due for a road session on the streets of Gloucester. Each rider is equipped with a helmet with an intercom which links directly to your instructor.
We headed out onto Bristol Road and spent the next two and half hours going ever every conceivable skill a new rider would need to get started. Hill starts (a nightmare), emergency braking, the lifesaver look over the shoulder – the session covers it all thoroughly.
The day ended at around 4.30pm and I was absolutely exhilarated. Having met the required standard I gained my certificate and an eternal gratitude to Lian and the Westside team for tutoring me so excellently.
If you are thinking of takingyour CBT make sure you choose a reputable training provider and remember this is BASIC training.
Thanks again to westside riders, a thoroughly professional and friendly outfit.
Just wanted to say thanks for the training and helping me pass my bike test. Marc was fantastic, keeping me going and talking about nothing in particular to steady my nerves before the test!
I really enjoyed the whole experience. I would recommend you to anyone wanting to get their bike licence, the training and facilities are great, and Marc was patient, helpful and encouraging, topped off with a sense of humour - what more could you ask for?
I was happy with every aspect of my training. The training grounds, bikes and instructor were all good. Marc, the instructor, was a patient and mellow charactor, which made myself and fellow pupils relaxed and I have recomended your school to several friends.
I have since gone on to pass my dass course with only 1 minor fault!
I'd like to give a big thank you to everyone that helped me to pass my DAS test, I really enjoyed all three days, everyone I had contact with at westside were great and so helpful. The training was so well set out with the classroom stuff through to the practical. I felt full of confidence and relaxed, and a final chat with Marc before my test helped settle any final nerves.
I took my CBT with Westside riders around four weeks ago and would just like to express my thanks to the instructor and staff who gave me a perfect introduction to riding safely.
I have now purchased a Honda CBR125R and have been gaining experience since my CBT. (Still occasionally forgetting to cancel the damn indicator though!!)
So I would thoroughly recommend Westside to anyone who wishes to learn to ride properly and safely.
I had a fab day on the CBT, Lawrence is a good instructor and makes you feel at ease. The facilities are good and I found it easy to book over the phone . The equipment that you provide is good quality and the training area is spot on!
I have just passed my theory test today so I'll be booking my A2 / Restricted with you.
I really enjoyed my CBT day on Sunday. Lawrence was really great at pointing out the aspects of my riding which needed adjusting and advising how to go about doing so, he was also very patient if I didn't catch on at first.
I was very pleased with all aspects of the day and will definitely be going back if and when I decide to take my test.
Just a quick note to say that i did the CBT course with Lawrence on
Thursday, which was a great success. Lawrence is a great
bloke and a brilliant tutor. I am really keen to progress my training
and do a DAS
course, I will try to secure a date in the near future.
The DAS course is potentially a tiring and intensive
four days of training, but thanks to the skills of Lawrence, Lian and Marc,
the training was effective, personal and fun! They took time to get to
know me and work out how far they could push me, and instruction was
delivered on a level where I felt they were comfortable pushing me to
achieve not just a test pass, but far more.
Thanks to the whole team, I'm
now more excited than ever about riding...both safely and enjoyably.
